“Huangdi Neijing” or the “Yellow Emperor’s Canon of Medicine”, a great medicine book written in about BC 99 to BC 26, has made various classifications of the body constitution based on the theories of Yin-Yang and Five Elements.

Since the 1970s, modern medical practitioners have conducted in-depth research on the classification standards of traditional Chinese medicine. The academic community generally uses Wang Qi’s Nine body categories as the standard, which introduced 9 types: Balanced Constitution (BC), Qi-deficiency Constitution(QDC), Yang-deficiency Constitution(YADC), Yin-deficiency Constitution(YIDC), Phlegm-dampness Constitution(PDC), Damp-heat Constitution(DHC), Blood stasis Constitution(BSC), Qi-depression Constitution(QSC) and Inherited special constitution (ISC). These 9 classifications are based on human body morphology, physiological functions, psychological characteristics, and reaction states.

This body constitution testing system is developed strictly according to the first document in China that guides and regulates the research and application of TCM constitution, “Classification and Determination of Traditional Chinese Medicine Constitution”.
